Ep 24:
Summer, Seth, Marissa and Ryan are at the movie theatre. Everyone seems to be catering to Marissa, who they think is still upset about finding out Luke had slept with her mother. Just after she professes her emotional stability, they all run into Luke and Julie at a juice bar. Marissa storms out.
The next morning, Ryan decides he needs to beat the crap out of Luke. Before he gets to that, Luke drops by the pool house and tells Ryan and Seth that he'll be leaving town, to move to Portland with his dad. He tells Ryan that he wants to say goodbye to Marissa, and then he'll be gone. Inside the Cohen house, Sandy and Jimmy receive a letter from the Liquor Board, denying their liquor license. Summer drops by Marissa and Jimmy's and Marissa is on her way to meet Ryan at the pier for lunch. Summer asks if she can stay there and watch television. At the pier, Ryan tells Marissa that he thinks she should see Luke, but she is not for it. They kiss.
Back at Jimmy's, Summer enlists the help of Seth after seeing Marissa's disheveled room. They plan to unpack her things and redecorate her room to try and bring some external order into Marissa's internal turmoil. Over at the Balboa Lighthouse, Sandy meets with a representative from the liquor board. Turns out, the Commissioner for the Liquor Board was a former client of Jimmy's, and that Jimmy squandered his money. It looks like the only way to get the liquor license approved is to have Jimmy step away from the restaurant.
Later, at Jimmy's, Caleb shows up and tells Marissa that he intends to propose to Julie that evening. Ryan tells Marissa that she can stop Caleb by telling him about Luke. Ryan goes back to the Cohen's and Luke is there waiting for him. Ryan tells him that Marissa doesn't want to see him. Luke says that he won't leave Newport without talking to her. Summer and Seth find a yearbook when they are cleaning up Marissa's room, and they talk about how much has changed in a year. Summer kisses Seth after she sees how much pain he was in without any friends before Ryan came along.
That night, at the grand opening of the Balboa Lighthouse, Luke arrives to confront Julie and Marissa. Ryan stops him at the door and before Luke enters, Caleb proposes to Julie. Luke runs out, and Ryan follows. Luke has been drinking and Ryan tries to stop him from driving away but he goes anyway. Marissa comes out in anger that Luke showed his face there. Ryan tells her that Luke is moving away and wants to say goodbye. They leave to find him before he does something harmful. When they call him, he is even more drunk, and he says that he is scum and doesn't deserve forgiveness. He hangs up on them. He calls Julie and leaves a message that he is coming to see her. Shortly after, Ryan and Marissa drive up to a crash scene. Luke is being taken away in an ambulance.
The next morning, Luke and Marissa, Seth and Summer wake up in the hospital waiting room with Luke's dad Carson. Carson says that Luke is fine but will be sleeping for a while. Seth and summer leave to finish Marissa's room. Marissa and Ryan stay. Back at the Cohen's, Sandy tells Jimmy why they lost their liquor license. Jimmy feels awful, but Sandy says that he may have found a solution- Caleb. Julie is yammering about her wedding plans and Kirsten looks less than thrilled. Kirsten mentions to Julie that Luke was in the hospital.
When Luke wakes up, Ryan and Marissa go in to see him. Luke asks Marissa for forgiveness, for all the things that happened. She gives it to him, and she and Ryan say goodbye to him. On the way out of the hospital, Marissa decides she has to do something about her mother. Julie has been responsible for a lot of Marissa's pain, and something has to be done. She goes to see Caleb. But Caleb already knows everything, and he has a plan of his own. He tells Marissa that he has offered to buy the Balboa Lighthouse from Sandy and Jimmy, for well more that it is worth. He tells her that the restaurant will fail otherwise, and that Jimmy will be ruined. If Marissa agrees to move in with Julie and Caleb and be a new family, her father will be wealthy and secure again. She agrees to his terms.
Back at Jimmy's, an exhausted Marissa returns with Ryan. They go up to her room and see all of the work that Seth and Summer have done. They have created a Paris-themed room. At first, Seth and Summer aren't sure that she likes it, but then she cries with happiness and they all lie down together on her new bed.
