Ep 18:
Ryan is suspended from school after his incident with Oliver. Sandy is confused as to what is going on with Ryan, but wants him to confide in him. Sandy tells Ryan that he is sort of grounded and that if he wants to stay with the Cohen's, he won't do anything or see anyone without their knowledge.
That morning at school, Summer and Marissa discuss what happened between Ryan and Oliver. Marissa insists Ryan was out of line and that she and Oliver are just friends. Seth and Anna also discuss Ryan, and Seth says that there is nothing he can do for Ryan, he doesn't listen. At the office, Sandy and Kirsten are ejected when Julie storms in with a decorative team. Turns out Caleb hired her on as an interior designer for the Newport Group. Back at home, time is passing slowly for Ryan, very slowly.
Back at school, Oliver and Marissa are having lunch. Other than planning the weekend ski trip to Mammoth with everyone but Ryan, Oliver is trying to convince Marissa to stay at the hotel with him, that she doesn't need to live next to Ryan right now. Luke comes by the table and makes his dislike of Oliver clear. He leaves. Oliver apologizes for being overprotective sometimes. While they are talking, Ryan calls but Marissa doesn't answer. When Marissa goes to get dessert, Oliver deletes the voicemail message Ryan left.
In the voicemail message, Ryan told Marissa to meet him in the library after school. But she doesn't get the message, and after school Oliver is waiting in the library for Ryan instead. He tells him to leave Marissa alone, and that she wants nothing to do with him. Ryan tells him that it's not over.
The next morning, Julie shows up at the Cohen house. While she is waiting for Kirsten to get ready for work, Ryan sits with her by the pool. Ryan tells her that Oliver is no good for Marissa. Julie doesn't know much about Oliver but is skeptical in believing anything Ryan ahs to say given his track record. After Ryan divulges some of Oliver's negative past to Julie, she seems a bit leery of him, but tells Ryan to stay out of trouble and sort of shrugs the information off.
At school, Oliver convinces Marissa to skip school and therapy and spend the day with him in L.A. He promises to have her back for dinner that she scheduled with her mom. When Luke and Seth see Oliver and Marissa leave, they devise a plan to find his supposed ex-girlfriend, Natalie. At the office, Caleb tells Kirsten that Julie is driving him crazy. He requests that Kirsten talk to her for him. He wants her to break up with Julie for him.
That evening, Seth has Anna and Summer over. Three's company. When Sandy sees how uncomfortable Anna is with Summer there, he tells Seth to smarten up, but he doesn't get it. Luke drops by and tells Ryan that he saw Oliver and Marissa leaving together, and that he did some digging, and couldn't find Oliver's ex-girlfriend anywhere. Ryan goes next door to Marissa and tells her that there is no Natalie. Marissa is furious with Ryan for butting in. She storms off and goes to Oliver's for the night. Sandy sees Ryan next door and looks disappointed. The next morning, he tells Ryan that he will do anything to help him, but that he can't do that unless he knows what is going on. When Luke drops by and hears that Ryan's talk with Marissa was a bust, he decides to handle Oliver himself.
Over at Oliver's he is trying to convince her to go away to Paris with him. She refuses, saying it's a bad time. Luke calls and says he is on his way over. At the office, Kirsten finds Julie adding the finishing touches to her new office, and it is good. She then tells Julie that her father doesn't want to see her anymore. And then Caleb walks in, to a distraught Julie. She storms out after quitting. At home, Sandy tells Seth that he is treating Anna poorly; Seth tells him that Ryan will come to him when he is ready.
Over at Julie's, Luke drops by to pick up some clothes for Marissa. Julie is crying, and Luke consoles her. Julie kisses him on the cheek, and for a moment, there is sexual tension, until she tells him to go.
Over at Oliver's hotel, Marissa goes down to the concierge to see if her clothes have been dropped off. There, she meets Natalie, who is not an ex-girlfriend, but Oliver's former babysitter, and an employee at the hotel. Marissa is freaked out. When she confronts Oliver on it, he flips out and starts hitting himself. She tells him to calm down and get changed. When he leaves the room she calls Ryan and tells him that she needs him to come over right away. Just then, Oliver comes out with a gun and takes the phone from Marissa and hangs it up.
Back at the Cohen's, Summer has left, and Seth apologizes for having Summer around so much. Ryan comes in and says that he ahs to go, that Marissa is in trouble. Sandy tells him that he will drive. When they get to the hotel, Ryan meets Natalie, and the three of them go upstairs with security. Inside, Oliver tells Marissa that he will be nothing if she leaves him, and that he is in love with her. He is going to use the gun on himself if she leaves him. Everything turns out to be okay though after the security team and Sandy and Ryan enter the room and Ryan convinces him to put the gun down and take a second chance in life.
Back at the house, Anna breaks up with Seth saying that she isn't his girlfriend, she is his friend, and that she won't pretend anything otherwise anymore. In the pool house, when Ryan gets home, Seth tells him that he is sorry he didn't have his back regarding Oliver. He promises to be there from then on.
