Ep 16:
Oliver shows up at Marissa's door asking for forgiveness. And he gets it from her. But he wants to make it up to her and show her that things are going to be new and good. So what better way to start that off than to take Marissa, Ryan and the gang on a trip. His family has a place in Palm Springs and he insists they'll all have fun. Oliver says Natalie and himself have patched things up and it'll be a trip for the couples to get to know each other and have a ball. Ryan, nervous about it, decides to learn how to golf. But he is still very hesitant about Oliver and Marissa's relationship. Seth insists Oliver is okay, and the trip will be good. Sandy says the same. But Ryan doesn't seem to be buying it, and whacks his golf ball into the sky and through the neighbours window. Oopsie.
Inside, Kirsten and Sandy discuss Julie and Caleb's return from Europe. They also predict that Hailey will be departing once she meets with Caleb and gets a new blank cheque. At Jimmy's, Marissa and Summer discuss the trip and Summer vents her distain for the though of traveling with Anna and Seth. She insists she has to go though, because she told the new couple that she was okay with them being together.
Out at the pier, Jimmy and Sandy discuss the future, and Jimmy sees no other option than to leave Newport. He says there is nothing left there for him. Sandy thinks the notion is ridiculous and suggests Jimmy come work at an entry-level job at his firm. Jimmy passes it off.
Later, Anna and Seth are lounging in his room, when in walks Summer, loud and lively. She gathers up the couple and takes them downstairs where Luke, Ryan, and Marissa are loading the cars up. Luke has brought a lot of beer, and Seth brings a humidifier. Just then, Oliver shows up, sans Natalie. Turns out Natalie has dumped him. To help Oliver deal with things, Marissa offers to ride with him to Palm Springs. Ryan is thrilled. Ryan rides with Luke, and Summer rides shotgun with Anna, Seth in the back.
In Palm Springs, Oliver tells Ryan not to worry about him stealing his girlfriend, Ryan says he wasn't. Then he tells Ryan to watch out for Luke moving in on Marissa once again. He tries to make Ryan feel bad by telling him that Marissa has revealed his shady past. Ryan is put off by Marissa's confessions.
Back in Newport, Julie and Caleb return from Europe. Hailey and Julie are obviously disgusted with each other. Julie and Kirsten are sick with Hailey's power over Caleb. Caleb is all over Hailey, he's her baby. Julie insists Caleb only ever listens to Kirsten, and that if she is afraid that Hailey is going to flee town again, she needs to warn him. Sandy tries to convince a partner at the law firm, to hire Jimmy.
It's golf time in Palm Springs, and Ryan isn't doing so well. But golfing isn't so fun for the kids, so they decide to have a golf cart race back to the club. Oliver drives Ryan and Luke off the path down into some brush. It is obvious to Luke and Ryan that it was on purpose, but Marissa sees it as playful. Meanwhile, elsewhere on the course, Summer and her "friends", Anna and Seth, aren't having such action. Summer repeats the word "friends" enough to make Anna ill, but Seth plays along with Summer's game. Summer seems to enjoy torturing Anna and Seth, whether its on the course or in the bedroom.
Back at the house, seems Luke likes the porn and the football on TV, so Summer decides to bunk in with Anna and Seth for the evening. Downstairs, Oliver and Ryan have a little chat about how Ryan sees Oliver as hogging Marissa. Oliver then freaks out and has a little meltdown. Marissa walks in just as Oliver leaves in distress. Blindly, Marissa faults Ryan.
In Newport, Sandy and Jimmy discuss their jobs, and reminisce over the good jobs of the past, and possibilities of the future. Sandy gets a bright idea, and convinces Jimmy to take over the reins of the 'Lighthouse' restaurant with him. Jimmy used to manage it anyway, before he met Julie, and he is excited about returning and turning the Lighthouse back into the ‘place to be'.
As Marissa waits up for Oliver to return, he calls her. He tells her he's driven back to Newport and taken a lot of pills. He tells her he is scared, and needs her to come back to help him out. Ryan and Marissa jump in the car and race back home. But Oliver is far from scared, and far from death. He sits in his penthouse living room throwing pills around, drinking and smirking with content. He loves the turmoil.
At the Cohen house, Hailey is furious about Kirsten's talk with Caleb, about how unstable Hailey is. Kirsten insists she never meant that Hailey couldn't stay, and live a happy life in Newport. Hailey blasts Kirsten and then storms out- she's leaving town again, without Caleb's money. She admits that Kirsten is right, she needs to get her own life.
At the Four Seasons, Marissa and Ryan find Oliver to be recovering. He insists he is fine, the pills are out of his system. They try and get him to go to the hospital but he says he doesn't want to be on another suicide watch.
At the Cohen's, Sandy stumbles in drunk, and goofy, telling Kirsten about his, and Jimmy's plan to enter the restaurant business. He admits that Jimmy has become a friend, and having a restaurant will fulfill his soul. Kirsten supports his risky decision, and admits that it means a lot to her than he and Jimmy have become close.
The other kids have returned from Palm Springs as well, and Summer is still disgusted with Anna and Seth's relationship, but satisfied with her sabotage attempts. She finds humour in Luke's attempt to come on to her. As the evening ends, Ryan believes Oliver didn't even take any pills, and thinks Oliver belongs in an institution. Marissa is outraged, and stays the night with Oliver. Ryan finds himself alone.
