Ep 12:
Seth doesn't want to go to school for fear of running into Summer and Anna. Kirsten doesn't want to go to 'yogalates' for fear of running into the Newport women and facing the rumours after her drunken episode at Thanksgiving.
At school, Ryan and Luke get paired to do a project together, both are thrilled. Over at Jimmy's, Sandy lets him know that he can get away without any jail time if he makes full restitution by the New Year. To Jimmy, that means selling the house, and that's not something he feels like doing at the holidays. He doesn't think Julie will go for it anyway, especially now that she has Caleb Nichol beside her.
Back at school, Summer and Marissa are in the washroom discussing Seth, when Anna comes in. Summer and she have a few words on where they stand regarding Seth. They bond while flossing. When Anna leaves the washroom, she bumps into Seth, who is keen on speaking with her about the incident at Thanksgiving. Summer then comes out and Seth fumbles as the girls put on an act of being best buds. At yogalates, Kirsten is greeted by the concern of all the ladies, and asks Julie to start acting like a friend.
After school, Ryan goes over to Luke's place to get started on their project together, he is met by two very playful younger brothers, and a happy mom and dad, Carson. Looks like Luke has a pretty nice family. Luke has the whole project planned out and says that they can put some material onto film but they'll have to go to his dads work to do it. Jimmy calls Julie to tell her he wants to sell the house, but she is not happy, and tells him he should go to jail instead. Back at Carson's work, Luke and Ryan are surprised to walk in on him and another man kissing. Looks like Luke's family isn't so 'perfect'.
The next morning, Ryan tells Marissa what happened the night before, but they decide not to tell Summer or Seth, or anyone for that matter. At school, Luke tells Ryan that he'll finish the project on his own, and then proceeds to call Seth a 'queer'. Inside, Seth sits with Anna, who then gets up and moves over on her own. Summer comes in, and sits with Anna, leaving Seth alone, and awkward.
Over at yogalates, Kirsten tells Julie that she can help her find a place to live if she needs it, or surely Caleb can. Julie then tells Kirsten that Caleb and her are through. Just then, Taryn comes in and tells them all about Carson Ward. Over at the tennis courts, Jimmy thanks Sandy for all the help he's giving him, and then lets it slip that he and Kirsten kissed.
At school the next morning, everyone knows about Luke's dad being gay, and no one cuts him slack. Luke thinks Ryan told everyone, Ryan thinks Marissa told everyone, and Seth is just happy someone told him. At home, Sandy confronts Kirsten about the kiss, and Kirsten reassures Sandy that it meant nothing. Sandy wonders how it meant nothing yet it was worthy of keeping from him. The next day at school, Seth apologizes to both Summer and Anna for his double-timing. Turns out that both of the young ladies accept the apology, and decide Seth isn't so bad. They both pursue him for a date that weekend, on separate days.
That night, Luke talks with Ryan and Marissa about the situation with his dad. It turns out his father came out to his mother, who then called some friends, and that is how Newport found out, not through Ryan or Marissa. Luke feels that his life has been a lie, and nothing that he ever knew was true. Ryan tells Luke not to write off his father, because his father at least cared about him. Marissa leaves to get a jacket, and a group of guys from another school come up and call Luke a fag when they see him and Ryan together. Of course Luke flips out and a fight breaks out in true O.C. fashion. The boys get bruised, but bond.
Back at the Cohen house, Julie drops by with a flower for Kirsten. She also has some news. Caleb is buying her house as an investment, so she can continue to live there, and Jimmy won't go to jail. Luke and Ryan arrive at the house, and Kirsten calls Carson. Carson comes by and is congratulated by Sandy on doing the right thing. Luke overhears his father pain and decides to go home with him rather than stay in the Cohen guest room. Kirsten and Sandy discover that there is no way that they can know everything about one another, and they make up after their fight about Jimmy and the kiss.
The next day, the three misfits plus one, Ryan, Marissa, Seth, and now Luke, bravely walk to school to face another day in the O.C.
