Ep 10:
A hot and heavy night is taking place for Marissa and Ryan now that they are free to love one another. They plan a date, their first official date, after some smooches and touches. But just when things are about to go even farther, Kirsten walks in and interrupts.
The next morning, Kirsten asks Sandy to speak to Ryan about rules of sex in the Cohen house. Then, they plan a romantic evening where the two of them will actually be home from work before midnight, and they start kissing. Just then, Ryan walks in, and spoils their smooches. Seems Seth is dying to know what his mother walked in on the night before. Ryan confirms that it was not sex. But then Ryan goes on to discuss his past love life, which shocks Seth.
Unfortunately, Sandy's work has piled up, and he ends up cancelling his date with Kirsten, which seems to make Rachel happy. Kirsten meanwhile, walks in on a seemingly too close meeting between her father Caleb, and Julie Cooper. Julie is hosting the Children's Hospital Benefit, with Caleb's monetary assistance. Kirsten says he is single-handedly sponsoring Julie Cooper's return to Newport Society. He brushes the allegation off.
Back at Jimmy's, the Coopers meet to discuss their re-entry into Society. Marissa is reluctant at first, but decides to support her parents at the charity event. Ryan and Marissa's date will have to move to the event, which Ryan is hesitant about. Ryan is hesitant about a lot of things, turns out he's never had a girlfriend before, many girls, but not girlfriends. And he's never dated. But he agrees with Marissa, that they are in fact a couple. After Anna and Ryan let Seth know that he talks too much about Summer, he decides to invite Anna to the Charity Benefit.
At work, Caleb and Kirsten butt heads with Sandy and Rachel over the continuing wetland case. Sandy stands up to Caleb after he tells Sandy that he's living off of his profits. He threatens to bring him down.
Back at the Cooper home, Ryan is still nervous about the Benefit. Marissa is picking out some clothes when Julie comes in, she wants to speak to Ryan alone. When she does, she lets him know that she no longer has harsh feelings for him, in fact, she is happy that Ryan is there for Marissa. She wants things to start fresh between herself and Ryan. He agrees, reluctantly of course. Back at school, Anna and Seth run into Summer, who is obviously unhappy with Seth and Anna's supposed relationship. When she hears about their date for the Benefit, she says she's going to, with Chip.
That evening, Ryan is taking the garbage out when he sees a car pull into the Cooper place, it is Caleb, coming over to see Julie. Ryan sees them kiss on the doorstep, and Julie sees Ryan watching. Julie sends and evil glare and Ryan turns away.
The next day, everyone is preparing for the Benefit. Anna comes to the Cohen home for the first time, and likes what she sees. Ryan is visibly uncomfortable about what he saw the night before, but Marissa doesn't notice. At work, Sandy and Rachel chow down on Chinese food, and Sandy wishes he was at the Benefit.
At the Benefit, the Cooper's are all smiles when a photographer asks for a photo, but it doesn't last long. When Caleb shows up, there is tension between himself and Julie, and of course, Ryan. Julie thanks Ryan for not telling Marissa, but he says he's not comfortable lying to her. When Summer arrives, she is annoyed by Chip and sends him to the bar, then looks longingly at Seth. Marissa teases Summer about liking Seth, and Summer denies it, so Marissa says Seth likes her. Then, Ryan tells Marissa about Caleb and Julie, and she runs off.
Back at the office, Rachel puts the moves on Sandy, heavy moves. But Sandy resists and leaves for the Benefit, which pisses Rachel off. Sandy doesn't arrive at the Benefit on a boat in time for the news to spill about Julie and Caleb's relationship. Marissa goes up the podium during Julie's self-flattering rant about the money raised for the Children's Hospital, and tells everyone about Julie and Caleb's affair. Kirsten is disgusted, and just as Sandy arrives, she turns him around, and they leave.
When Ryan goes to check in on Marissa, she tells him she's ready for the first date. The biggest news of the evening though, is that Summer walks up to Seth and kisses him, leaving him in shock when she tells him, and herself, that she's in love with Seth Cohen. The night ends with Marissa and Ryan sleeping together. Young love in The O.C.
