Ep 5:
Today, we find the boys playing on the waterfront. They stop at the Crab Shack for a bite to eat and discuss money issues. Ryan feels bad about draining the Cohens of money while he lives with them, especially since he is not their child. Seth suggests that Ryan should find a job. Conveniently, someone at the Crab Shack quits at the very moment, which piques Ryan's interest. He takes a job serving at the restaurant.
While working at the Crab Shack, Ryan meets another server named Donny. Donny is a bit of a party kid and offers to introduce Ryan to some of the ‘real' people in Newport Beach. Seth seems a bit jealous of Ryan's new mate. Ryan runs into Marissa at the Crab Shack and asks her out on a date. Marissa is stuck babysitting Kaitlin, so Ryan decides to go over to her house for some of Marissa's mac' and cheese.
Meanwhile at the Cohen's, Sandy is helping Jimmy figure out what to do with the mess he has created in his life. The guys decide they need to take a break and have a bachelors' night, as both of their wives are out with the Newport Society women. Jimmy and Sandy play video games and drink beer, and both admit that the best years of their lives were the years they each spent with Kirsten. Sandy advises Jimmy to pay the 4 million dollars in fines to avoid jail time, but Jimmy can't fathom the thought of having to sell off all of the family assets. If Jimmy doesn't pay, he could go to jail for 8 to 10 years.
Seth finds himself all aflutter when Donny asks him to go to a party with him. Ryan thinks it will be too much for Seth to handle, as Donny's crowd is a bit rougher than Seth is used to. Ryan decides to tag along for a little while, promising Marissa he'll only be a little bit late. Plans change later, though, after Seth's Range Rover is vandalized and the boys go home instead.
Meanwhile at the Spa, Julie reveals to her Society friends that she is considering divorcing Jimmy. They all agree it would be the ideal thing to do, except for Kirsten, who is appalled at the thought. Kirsten argues that Jimmy needs support, not rejection. Julie also reveals to Kirsten that she has been jealous of her ever since she was a child. Julie thinks Kirsten has had the perfect life that she has always dreamed of.
Later in the evening, Seth invites Donny to a party of his own, a Newport party, at none other than Holly Fischer's house. Of course, the Newport scene is not what Donny is used to, and Seth warns him the party might be a bit bland. But Donny says that as long as there are girls and beer at the party, all is fine. Ryan skips out on the party in order to spend the evening with Marissa at the pool house. Tonight, Ryan cooks grilled cheese. After dinner, Ryan and Marissa go for a late night dip in the pool. The excitement doesn't last long, as Ryan gets a frantic call from Seth that things are getting out of control over at Holly's.
Some of the snooty Newport kids are teasing Donny about being a server at the Crab Shack and being from the poorer side of town. This suitably ticks Donny off...enough to make him pull out a gun. Ryan arrives and tries to stop Donny, but a stray bullet is fired and hits Luke in the arm.
